What is TED

TED is a nonprofit organization dedicated to spreading powerful ideas through short, impactful talks. Starting as a conference in 1984 focused on Technology, Entertainment, and Design, TED has evolved into a global platform covering a wide range of topics—from science and business to art and global issues. Through TED Talks, TEDx events, TED-Ed, and other initiatives, TED aims to inspire, educate, and ignite meaningful conversations worldwide. All TED Talks are available for free online, making knowledge and innovative ideas accessible to everyone. “Ideas Worth Spreading” remains at the heart of TED’s mission.

What is

In the spirit of “Ideas Worth Spreading,” TEDx is a global program of local, self-organized events designed to bring people together for a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, curated TED Talks videos and live speakers come together to spark deep discussions, inspire innovation, and foster connections. These independently organized events operate under the TEDx brand, where “x” signifies an independently organized TED event. While TED provides general guidance, each TEDx event is uniquely crafted by local organizers, ensuring a diverse and impactful experience within TED’s guidelines and principles.
